    Managua
    Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, lies on Lake Managua in the west of the country. With a population of more than 1.8 million, it is the largest city in continental Central America outside Mexico. It is an economic and cultural centre with cement, textile and food industries. Despite repeated disasters, such as the earthquake of 1972, the city continues to develop and is home to institutions including the Universidad Centro-Americana. Its tropical climate has a dry season from November to April, which makes that the best time to visit.
